When there’s only surface left is a piece by choreographer Oda Brekke, in collaboration with dance artists Maia Means and Lisa Schåman, composer Hara Alonso and visual artist Mathilde Sundfjord Sæthre. Together they are busy with the notions of surface, emptiness and traces,

We experiment with techniques from dance, music and plastic arts to study methods that can amplify everyday things that typically pass unnoticed. To spend time with the tactile and sonorous experience of surface is a means of tuning into something concrete in a society where technologies constantly abstract our relationships; to one another, with the environments we are part of, and the things we coexist with. Turning towards surfaces makes our rhythm shift. We linger with the traces that are there. Some are carved out–an absence of something that used to be there. Some are rests, leftovers– a layer of something else. Through performing actions such as emptying, tracing and surfacing we slowly follow the tracks, pathways and marks carved out by repetitions in objects, rooms and human bodies.
